This project required building an interactive, content-rich platform that connects travelers, history enthusiasts, and local communities along a historic scenic route. The site combines mapped listings, trip planning tools, cultural stories, events, and curated travel guides to create an engaging exploration experience. We engineered a system that handles thousands of location-based listings, editorial content, user submissions, and interactive mapping - all optimized for discovery and engagement.

The Challenge
The platform needed to serve multiple audiences - casual travelers, dedicated enthusiasts, and local tourism organizations - each with different content needs and interaction patterns. Managing thousands of attractions, events, and points of interest required sophisticated data modeling. The interactive map needed to handle complex filtering without performance degradation. Editorial content had to integrate seamlessly with location data. And the entire system needed to be maintainable by content editors without developer intervention.
Our Solution
We built a custom content architecture that unifies editorial content with geospatial data, enabling rich storytelling tied to specific locations. The frontend uses optimized JavaScript with Leaflet for performant map rendering with custom tile optimizations. Spatial databases power location queries and proximity searches. Pre-built inspiration trips provide curated itineraries with calculated distances and themed stops. A robust CMS enables editors to manage listings, write articles, and moderate user submissions. Newsletter integration and SEO optimization drive ongoing engagement.
