Welcome to the Talkie Buddies Privacy Policy. Talkie Buddies is a real-time audio communication app that functions like a walkie-talkie over Wi-Fi multicast or Bluetooth. This page explains how we handle your information while supporting secure, private, and seamless communication between devices on the same network.

Information We Process

1. Display Name (On-Device)

Your chosen display name is saved locally using Android DataStore and shared only with nearby devices during discovery.

2. Device Identifier (Temporary)

We attach a short device ID to each multicast audio packet for speaker identification. This ID is ephemeral and deleted after sessions end.

3. Audio Data (Real-Time Only)

Microphone input is streamed live at 44.1 kHz PCM 16-bit mono to 224.0.0.1:50005. Talkie Buddies does not record, save, or upload any audio to servers.

4. Logs & Diagnostics (On-Device)

Local logs may be generated for troubleshooting. They never leave your device unless you manually share them with our support team.

What We Do Not Collect

  • No email, phone, or account information.
  • No precise location or GPS data.
  • No access to photos, files, or contacts.
  • No ad IDs or analytics tracking.

Permissions Used by Talkie Buddies

  • Microphone: To transmit your voice.
  • Bluetooth: For optional Bluetooth audio exchange.
  • Wi-Fi Multicast & Network: For sending and receiving local UDP audio packets.
  • Notifications: To indicate active communication sessions.

You can revoke these permissions at any time in your device settings, but some app features may stop working.

Third-Party Libraries

Talkie Buddies may include FFmpeg or FFmpegKit for on-device audio processing. These libraries operate locally and do not transmit user data externally.

Data Retention & Security

  • Display Name: stored locally until you uninstall the app or clear app data.
  • Audio Streams: transient and discarded immediately after transmission.
  • Logs: remain on-device unless you share them manually.

Communication in Talkie Buddies occurs only between devices on the same network. Use trusted Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connections and keep your system updated for the best security posture.

Children's Privacy

Talkie Buddies is not intended for children under 13 years old. We do not knowingly collect information from minors. Parents can contact us if they believe data has been shared inadvertently.

  • Change or clear your display name in-app or via system settings.
  • Revoke any permission from Android Settings > Apps > Talkie Buddies.
  • Uninstall the app to erase all stored data.
